CAPES 2019 Thesis Award

The Graduate Program in Chemistry wins honorable mention at the CAPES 2019 Thesis Award!

The egress of the Doctorate in Chemistry of UFG, Dr. Igor Pereira da Silva, advised by Prof. Boniek Gontijo Vaz, was honored with the honorable mention at the CAPES 2019 Thesis Prize in the Chemistry area!

The Thesis entitled “Ambient Mass Spectrometry: New Approaches to Pesticide Analysis in Food”, defended in 2018, represents an innovative and highly efficient approach to pesticide analysis at very low concentrations directly in food, allowing the detection and quantification of agrochemicals in different food layers using minimal or no sample preparation. Besides all the success in a topic of remarkable relevance to human health, the quality of the study presented in this Thesis can be attested by the publication of 03 (three) articles in high impact factor (IF) international journals (Analytical Chemistry, IF = 6,042; Talanta, IF = 4,244; Analytical Methods, IF = 2,073), and in one of them, the study was selected for the cover of the corresponding issue.

In addition, during his PhD, held a sandwich period at Louisiana State University under advising by Prof. Kermit K. Murray, Igor participated in several other works in collaboration with the group of the Laboratory of Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (LaCEM).

Igor currently develops a postdoctoral fellowship from Petrobras, associatedat with the UFG Graduate Program in Chemistry.
